2 network questions

First

I have a Qwest DSL Modem that has built in wi-fi with 64-bit WEP encryption and I plan on getting a wi-fi card for my vector lappy and use ndiswrapper to install the windows drivers, but the ndis website says it only supports 40- and 128-bit encryption (and I think it was only WPA). What I want to know is if Ndiswrapper will work with the encryption and if not are there any other options.

Second

I wanted to know if I do a minimal install of Debian, if I could install ndiswrapper (or whatever else), the windows drivers and wireless tools afterwards (from a cd) and use my wireless network to install packages from apt. Or if the network has to be configured during installation.

Why not just buy a card that has native linux support?
