Have you installed Guest Additions in the guest operating system?

You don't mention which guest operating systems you are experiencing this with (I assume Mint 18.3 Xfce 64-bit is your host).

You install the guest additions from within the guest VM. Which guest operating system are you using?

Launch the Ubuntu VM. Once it has booted, use the VirtualBox menus to select Devices->Insert Guest Additions CD Image.

Hopefully a window will open - select Run.

If the window doesn't open, navigate to the CD folder and, on the command line, run sudo ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run

Once everything is completed, reboot the VM.
