Using Backup

I am trying to convert my Windows XP OS to VB guest, but it's not going well installing all the old programs.
I do have a complete image backup on an external USB drive.
Can I use that instead of a re-install? How do I use it? Do I have to use the original 'make' software, installed in VB?
I would appreciate some advice, it will save me hours!

I don't think there is a way to use a backup of an originally installed installed system to install in a Vbox. Much of the problem is dealing with the crappy registry windoze has.

As much as it is a pain, you will have to install programs from install files; the way you did on the original install.

Hours, you bet. That is windoze at it worst. And don't forget all the time downloading windoze fixes... I do run Vbox, I know, been there, done that.
