confused about kvm live migration over nfs

Hi virtual people

I am trying to create a KVM and then live migrate it between two hosts. It's just for learning purposes.

This is my setup: three ubuntu 14 LTS hosts, 1 nfs, and the other two as kvm_host1 and kvm_host2. They are all VMware VMs on the same network and can reach other.

I am following this guide here: https://www.linux.com/learn/tutorial...ith-linuxs-kvm

but i am getting confused at figure 2 add a new storage pool.

On kvm_host1, I got the NFS server mounted already at /mnt/nfs.

For the target path I think I can just let it use the default: /var/lib/libvirt/images/pool
for the hostname it should be obvious: nfs
for source path is it the path on my NFS server? nfs:/mnt/nfs_export

Another question I have is more general: can we do live kvm migrations without NFS? I guess comparatively speaking with the VM stored on the NFS during the migration you just have to replicate the CPU and memory state. But what if I don't have an NFS?

thanks

EDIT:

I should point out that I am not actually 100 percent following the guide, for starters, I don't see the point of 2 NFS. The scenario I have in my mind is multiple servers and a NFS shared between them.

"for the hostname it should be obvious: nfs" Not sure I'd agree but I can't say for certain. In almost all cases where I see the word "hostname" used, one uses the actual hostname. Issue the command hostname to get it.

Source path would be what you set when you created the nfs share.

You can usually test nfs by other means before you attempt migrate.
