Zypper Question

I am writing some software that calles zypper in a loop for every package update which is available but not installed, in order to gather some details about the package. My problem is this - before the call to zypper for each package, it checks whether to refresh each repository's metadata. Therefore, if the loop cycles through 100 packages, it will check each repository each time.

Within the zypper command, for example:

zypper -v info -t patch telnet

how can I tell zypper not to worry about refreshing metadata?

Thanks.

I'm not sure if there's a way to do it directly with zypper. You may have to modify your repository settings to not refresh.

Thanks for your response.

I don't want to change a permanent setting. I just want it to not refresh before that command, because it's looping through every uninstalled package name to gather details to be reported, and checking whether it needs to refresh each and every repository before each and every iteration is slowing the routine down a lot. When zypper is called a lot of times consecutively in a FOR loop, there is no reason why this should be checked over and over. Also, if there is a solution, it needs to be something I could do programatically, because it won't be running just on my own computer.
