Yellow Root Konsole and gvim error

I am getting an error when trying to use gvim. The error is E233: cannot open display. Also, my konsole defaults to the root shell (even though I'm not logged in as root). I have tried changing this setting in Konsole -> Settings -> Configure Konsole -> Sessions and changing the session and applying, but every time I close and re-open, it's back to the root console. This started happening after I configured my desktop settings. Your help is greatly appreciated

RESOLVED: I backed up my files and remade the user. It wasn't the way I was looking for, but it worked.
