xterm: unable to open font

I am running Fedora Core 4.
I ssh to an AIX 4.3.3 server from which I export my DISPLAY back to my Fedora Server. Although I can use X11 protocols (I used xclock and other X11 appl for testing) when I start an xterm from the AIX server I receive the msg:

xterm: unable to open font "-*-ergonomic-medium-r-*-iso9241-20-*-*-*-c-*-iso8859-*", trying "fixed"....

The xterm opens and it works, but the fonts look horrible and the GUI comes off the screen.

Here is the actual command that I am using:

xterm +ah -geometry 132x46 -T vpay -sb -s -sl 600 -bg NavajoWhite4 -fg black -ut -e ssh -l userid vpay&

Any ideas anyone?

Thank you

Check your $TERM variable. Maybe try changing it, if it is set to linux then try setting it to xterm or visa-versa.

<edit> Also you could look through the config files:
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults/XTerm
or
$HOME/.Xresources

BTW welcome to LQ.

Thank you for your reply.

I tried setting TERM to linux and xterm in Linux and AIX. I tried all conbinations. I think that might problem has to do with the monitor resolution.
I am using a new Gateway 700G. The resolution is set to 800x600. If I try pushing the resolution a knotch, say to 1024x768 or higher, the screen goes black. Even after rebooting the screen still black. So I have to reboot in ASCII mode and remove the X11 configuration file, and when asked during the boot process, I set the resolution to 800x600. But then I get the original problem that prompted me to create this post.

If I can get a device driver for the Gateway monitor, perhaps my problem would be fixed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again!
