Xserver won't start
Hi peeps,
First hardware specs:
Sony Vaio VGN-A115M
Ati Radeon 9200
(the rest is irrelevant i think)
Distro:
Debian unstable (kernel 2.6.8)
Display manager kdm
What i did:
I installed Debian on my laptop (kernel 2.4.11 or something)
First i installed the ati driver and some other stuff (putty, etc..)
Then I did a distro-upgrade,
I saw that XFree86 was replaced/upgraded with Xorg.
First i thought no prob but u can already sew what went wrong.
After a reboot i only can't use a graphical log-in.
Thus i read the linuxforums and googled about an hour but nothing Thea could help me.
What i already tried:
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg (set up the settings right)
go back to Xfree86 and back to Xorg
upgraded everything i could.
in the error files the only errors i'm getting are:
apm_bios can't be open (i'm sure apm i installed)
and 2 fonts that can't be opend cyrillic and CID
so anyone suggestions?
Avelino
