xine problems

Hi, I am trying to load xine and associated libraries etc. but am having trouble. In my present Redhat Fedora Core 2 install, I already have xine, but perhaps all the components are not there. So I am unable to play any dvds

Here's what I'd like to do-

1. Remove all traces of exisiting xine and associated stuff.

2. Load the latest version of xine and associated stuff.

I would appreciate it if you could tell me how to do this. I would like to know the web site for download and exactly what files to download.

Thanks for any help.

well the files you need to get dvd's and things to play are :

xine
xine-lib
xine-lib-devel
libdvdcss
libdvdnav
libdvdplay
libdvdplay-devel
libdvdread
libdvdread-devel

These are all available in rpm form, you might not need all of them in fact you definatly don't but i can't remember the exact ones so get them all.

you can use the advances search to get the files from
http://rpm.pbone.net for fedora core 2. you can also get most of the codecs from the mplayer site !

for dvd playback you may also have a problem where the player looks for /dev/dvd and you don't have it. On my system i had to link the secondary master ide to the dvd device by typing

ln -s /dev/hdc /dev/dvd

you may wan to learn how to use yum to save you looking for each file on rpm.pbone.net. a good example is at

Also try Ogle:
http://www.dtek.chalmers.se/groups/dvd/

Use Yum or Apt for both.
