xine dvd slow playback

hi all, when i hit the dvd button on xine-ui it will take about 30 secs. to start to play. and if i hit the forward button the screen will freeze for about a minute before it skips to the next selection. sometimes i have to kill it.
my pc is about 2 years old but xine has only been acting like for 2 weeks.

what i did is vobcopy -m the dvd to the hard drive but xine dvd://home/schneidz/dvd doesnt work (a pop-up box says that it cant find dvd .ifo file - used to work). so i do xine *.vob but i cant click on the menus.

can anyone explain why i am unable to play ripped dvd's from the hard drive?

fyi: i installed a new seagate 120 gb hd but that wouldn't explain why the same dvd-rom would be so slow.

thanks,

Slow DVD

What kind of hdd is it? if it is an IDE, there could be a channel conflict from installing the new hdd and having both request to be master or slave; You might also make sure that you're using the 40 pin IDE cable vs the older 20 pin with the same connectors.

i played around but i'm not sure but i think my problem with the slow playback from the dvd-rom was that i had 'ide-scsi' enabled. i did this as root:
Code:
#rmmod ide-scsi
and it seemed to resolve it and i do:
Code:
#insmod ide-scsi
whenever i need to record a cd.

i think this was my problem with the hdd issue:
