XF86 Install

I'm trying to load XF86 and am having trouble getting it to work. I think it is at least partially a problem when downloading the files through ms windows. Windows tags all the text files with the .txt extension. Is this in fact preventing Linux from finding the files when loading? If so, is there any way to override this in windows?

the simpest way to fix this is usually just to rename the file.
