"sometimes Mint has trouble installing to a drive" ohhh I get it. Yes. A few installers will seem to prevent one from installing over linux. Sometimes goofy round about way is to use the installer to remove and then reboot.

Yeah, that's what I did. Had the installer wipe the drive to get rid of LVM. I them shut down and rebooted. Gparted would not get rid of LVM. dd did not git rid of it either. Thought about doing fdisk. I used to partition a disk before installing but that was a long time ago.

What method of partitioning in advance of installing do you use? fdisk? A long time ago I used fdisk to partition before installing. I would need to read up on fdisk if that is the way to go.

The only partitioner I've used for writing in the past two decades is not FOSS. Its name is DFSee. It uses a plain text interface that is identical regardless whether used in DOS, Linux, Mac, OS/2 or Windows.
