WineX Vanilla kernel?

Hi all, for the past few days ive been playing with Wine, and with things are not working perfectly, i figured i should move on to WineX. I run redhat linux 9 and in my book ive been reading (redhat linux 9 bible) it says that i need to download a vanilla kernel from kernel.org and boot my redhat system on that before running games with WineX.

Now ive olny been using linux for a week, but ive been reading the book non stop and geting better... so i have a few questions

1. What is a vanilla kernel? is it like a redhat kernel? or is it like and adj discribing lite kernels or somthing...

2. Is there a good totorial on how to install this for a newb anywhere?

3. Is it possable for a newb? Meaning you think its crazy hard or someone with a little experence can do it?

thanks, ahead any help would be grand

I R
