Question wine: sol.exe but no notepad

using the wonderful tutorial at wineHQ i was able to get wine from cvs up...and sort of running. of what i've tried, i can run sol, winebrowser, and wcmd flawlessly. when i run winhelp, notepad, winmine, or photoshp a window appears, dissapears, comes back, goes away, comes back, goes away, etc... it doesn't stop until i can get focus of the terminal long enough to ctrl-C.
Miranda32 windows stay, but are not filled with anything, and will not terminate without "killall wine-preloader"

i do not have a windows partition (windows files come from a networked computer)
wine --version returns wine 20040505
wine is in /usr/local/bin/wine
~/.wine/drive_c/ is fake windows?
i am using evil entity kernel 2.4 with enlightenment dr16.not the latest
-any of that matter?

and i couldn't figure out the last step in the install guide
$ cd tools
$ perl ./winecheck
winecheck wasn't there?

also attempting to run freecell results in an error: i need cards.dll?

thanks for the repy

i updated from cvs (and that did nothing)
but i read through most of the documentation again and added
[x11drv]
"Managed" = "N"
"Desktop" = "N"

i think wine has a problem w/ enlightenment or the other way around -- either way now progs run out of wine look windows ugly (but at least they run)
i dont know why sol would run and not the other programs???

are there any console error messages when you run one of the non-working progs?
