I'm trying to install Wine so I can use Internet Explorer for testing but Wine is not cooperating. I'm installing on Slackware 10.0 with 2.4 kernel. The install seems to go well enough, but when I try to run winecfg I get an error message

wine: unhandled page fault on write access to 0x003ffd80

I've tried versions 0.9.20, 0.9.22, and 0.9.23 both from source and Slackware packages with no luck and so far I've found nothing to help me solve the issue.

I think you forgot the make depend step. This step is required for any Linux distribution.

You should upgrade to 2.6.x kernel version. It is a lot faster.

IMHO, WINE is getting horrible. Every version keeps getting worst and it gets harder to use. I suggest using VMware Workstation or VMware Server and install ReactOS or use Windows 98 or Windows 2000. Another WINE project named WINEX does it the smart way by using plain-text config files which is the best way. WINE developers moved over to GUI to configure it, so it is impossible to edit its config files by hand and it crashes a lot because it using GUI.
