Wine and Symantec PCAnywhere

Has anyone gotten this to work using Wine?
I've been searching around and I've gotten quite a few apps working on Linux. I'm on IE6 now.
I have the install .exe for pcanywhere 10.5 and i can get the installation going well at first but then it says it cant find full.cab in my e:\ temp folder (which is /tmp on my ext2.

Ive checked Frank's Corner and not much talk about it.
Anyhelp would be appreciated.

Thanks for the information.
I'll look into VNC.
It looks kewl cuz its free but the reason I need PCAnywhere working is because the business I'm connecting to uses that for now.

Thanks.

I tried using PCAnywhere using CrossOver Office. I couldn't get it to work.

TightVNC seems to work good enough.

are they running win9x, win2k, or winXP?

if they are running win9x or 2k, then use netmetting. its better then PCanyware, faster, and lighter, plus its built intot he OS.

if they are using XP, then use TS (terminal service. in XP its called remote connection) again its built into the OS, lighter and better then PCanyware.

netmeeting is slower then TS, but always alows data transfer with a built in FTP program that is secured by the netmeeting connection.

TS is faster, and lighter on the OS then netmeeting, but sometimes the HD shares work, sometimes they do not. its still kind of fluky that way.

add, if you are coming from linux to a M$ system, and they are running TS, then you can use rdesktop. it is faster, and the only feature that is not offerd is the windowning of the seasion. once you open it, you are stuck in it if you chose the -f (full screen) option.

if you need to get in and out of the TS seassion, then just do not use the -f argument when loggin in:

rdesktop -u test -p test -f IP

that will propagate the user name of test, the password name of test, and then you can put in the IP, or DNS location of the TS server. i use this all the time from my RH box to both winXP systems (only works with pro mind you due to home edition being really gimped with its TS powers) and my 2k servers that i manage.

if you are connecting to a 2k server, then you can not propagate the -p option as 2k server will not alow that, but you can use the -u and -f still to speed things up a bit.

Hmm good information about remoting.
Thats kewl that rdesktop works between linux and XP. I havent tried it but I heard it might work but you're obviously proof that it does work.
I'll have to consider Netmeeting since they're only on XP Home... that or get them on XP Pro. =)
My other comp is XP Pro so I'll have to try the TS connection using rdesktop.

Thanks for the info.

I think I'm going to reinstall Wine because I had to go through crap to get IE6 working so there seems like something wrong with the regs or something.

Lleb_KCir - Just to clear up a few things (maybe a little bit of reference for future use)....

1) once you open it, you are stuck in it if you chose the -f (full screen) option.

Simply use Ctrl- Alt- Enter to toggle between full-screen mode & window mode.

2)f you are connecting to a 2k server, then you can not propagate the -p option as 2k server will not alow that

2k Server does allow this, it's just turned off by default...to enable it, go into Terminal Services Configuration on the server and un-check the "Always prompt for password" checkbox in the properties dialog for your connection.
