.wine and Ham Radio 2m Packet software hangs on text

In Central CA we have a Ham Radio Sunday Night Packet Radio net on 2m (145.050 MHz.) I have been using Windows XP Pro for my software which is XPWare for Windows. Since the EOL of Windows XP I am trying to switch over to Linux Mint 17 32-bit.
Here is a link to the page where I got the software:
http://www.glaswerks.com/xpware/
I am trying to get the software to run on Linux Mint 17. I installed the latest version of wine and installed XPWIN. The install went fine. I can even find the /dev/ttyS0 (com 1 port) and can talk to the Kantronics KPC-3 TNC I use.

Here is the problem. When I type into the input window, the text does not show. If I move the mouse, then the text shows and the info is sent to the com port and the TNC responds correctly. Each time I type anything it just hangs until I move the mouse.

I have tried using different fonts but still have the problem. Currently I am using Fixedsys 9 font. I have checked the paths and tried to correct them to the proper locations. Here is what I have:

[Directories]
Program=C:\XPWIN\
TextEditor=/home/al/.wine/drive_c/windows
ANSI=/home/al/.wine/drive_c/XPWIN/ANSI
Download=/home/al/.wine/drive_c/XPWIN/DOWNLOAD
Upload=/home/al/.wine/drive_c/XPWIN/UPLOAD
Automatic=1
Program=/home/al/.wine/drive_c/XPWIN/

I don't understand the paths to wine.

Before I just left the Program=C:\XPWIN\ without adding the Program=/home/al/.wine/drive_c/XPWIN/ path, the program could not find the startup and shutdown files that XPWIN uses.

But I still have the text not showing or taking effect until I move the mouse.

Are there any Amateur radio people out there that might be able to help?

There are a few members that are hams...

Take a look at LinPac (http://linpac.sourceforge.net/). It might be a decent native packet radio application. Could be others. I have not tried any type of digital communication yet but it is on my todo list so let us know if you find a solution.

wine does not work with all windows programs so it might take a bit of debugging/tweaking to get xpwin going.
