i use syslog-ng standards, no sign of it there... you look at sandal wearing configs?
syslog-ng is a replacement for syslogd, standards don't apply in some cases. I did mention it's not as common as most distributions just throw everything in messages nowadays it seems, some people still separate their logs, organization is a good thing some times.
Slackware by the way still uses the /var/log/syslog file like I mentioned. But don't just call it a protocol, back up your facts before spewing out garble.
Ahh, I always wondered what the software i've used and extensively configured for years did! I read somewhere that it was designed to be a drop in replacement for sysklogd using the same relevant files, but what would i know? I would expect slackware to use it, what with it being antiquated and all that. (think i've done enough damage now...!)
