why I got this info when I tried to install MPlayer

Hi everyone:
I followed an online tutorial trying to install MPlayer. After I have done everything and ran it and it got me this feedback:

MPlayer 1.0rc2-4.1.2 (C) 2000-2007 MPlayer Team
CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.66GHz (Family: 15, Model: 2, Stepping: 7)
CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 0 3DNow2: 0 SSE: 1 SSE2: 1
Compiled for x86 CPU with extensions: MMX MMX2 SSE SSE2
The flip-hebrew option can't be used in a config file.
Error parsing option flip-hebrew=no at line 125

I have spent two hours just on installing one software. I am too tired. Anyone who can help me would be greatly appreciated...

According to the error you get, you should check the mplayer configuration file for that line and delete it (or comment it out). The config file in question is either /etc/mplayer.conf (or /usr/local/etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf) for a system-wide configuration, or ~/.mplayer/config for user specific configuration.

I don't know what to do now. As I turn on my computer, all of the title bars in every window disappear. It looks similar to the situation when I was installing compiz fusion last month. Last time I reinstalled my video driver and it worked. but this time it does not.
I have re-installed fc 8 three times in the past three months, almost the equal number of times I have re-installed Windows XP in the past five years. sorry, I'm new to FC.

http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mp...ora.html#setup
This is the tutorial I used to set up my MPlayer(from step 1 to 3.3.5).

Now if I run gmplayer,
I got this message:

MPlayer 1.0rc2-4.1.2 (C) 2000-2007 MPlayer Team
CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.66GHz (Family: 15, Model: 2, Stepping: 7)
CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 0 3DNow2: 0 SSE: 1 SSE2: 1
Compiled for x86 CPU with extensions: MMX MMX2 SSE SSE2

MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: unknown
- MPlayer crashed by bad usage of CPU/FPU/RAM.
Recompile MPlayer with --enable-debug and make a 'gdb' backtrace and
disassembly. Details in DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports_what.html#bugreports_crash.
- MPlayer crashed. This shouldn't happen.
It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your
gcc version. If you think it's MPlayer's fault, please read
DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html and follow the instructions there. We can't and
won't help unless you provide this information when reporting a possible bug.

I can see the MPlayer GUI pop up, but it does not play any file. only the above messages are shown in the output. If runs perfectly without GUI. sounds are clear, only no video.
Any ideas?

Since mplayer works fine but gmplayer does not, I can only guess that the problem is related to either some X library or to gtk. Perhaps upgrading these packages can help you.
I think that's better to d/l all the needed mplayer packages from rpm.livna.org and install them using yum without messing with X and gtk.

This article: "MPlayer and MEncoder (DVD/Movie/Video/MP3 Player and Encoder)." at

http://linuxhelp.150m.com/installs/mplayer.htm

might, or might not, help.

There are 10 different folders in the link. Which are is gtk or X ? sorry, I am very new to fc. Could you post the link to gtk and X directly?

Also, is there any way to restore system to a previous point? like windows ' restore feature.

thanks!

This link teaches how to install MPlayer. Now I just want to fix my MPlayer, maybe remove it.

Is there any way to restore computer to a previous point?

The link I gave you is to d/l the various mplayer parts (not gtk or X components that are already installed in your system). Now as you said you use fc8, so you should go down the fedora/8 directory. Then select the directory that matches your system's architecture (i386, or x86_64) and d/l the various mplayer packages (there 5 of them) and install them using your package manager.

You can go into the directory you used to build mplayer and run:
Code:
make uninstall
It will delete all the files added by the "make install" command

It does not work. I think the best way now would be to remove these components.

I have installed
lame-3.9.7.tar.gz
xvidcore-1.1.3.tar.bz2
live555-latest.tar.gz
windows-all-20071007.rpm
essential-20071007.tar.bz2
MPlayer-1.0rc2.tar.bz2
Blue-1.7.tar.bz2

Only the MPlayer comes with "make uninstall" command. The rest only have "make install". If I want to remove all these files, where should I go? (I install these in my user folder with 'su" to change to root mode)

thanks.

If you've installed this software running the ./configure script without specifying a prefix, then it's most likely installed under /usr/local. You can read the INSTALL and the Makefile (look for the install option) in each directory you've extracted the sources to verify it. If you have used a --prefix=/whatever, then the various components are installed under /whatever.
You must pay attention in what you're going to delete.

Here are the directories under my usr/local directory:
bin etc games include lib libexec sbin share src

I can remember that I copied one of the software into usr/local/lib/codecs. But I am not sure should I delete the whole directory?

Also,

I found out that I cannot even "gedit" some file. Some of the files in my computer which are definitely not empty, include the makefiles, yet the "gedit filename" could not display any of them. How come?

Looking at the s/w you've installed, you should look under /usr/local/lib, /usr/local/include for libraries and header files for lame, xvidcore, and live555-latest
windows-all-20071007.rpm, essential-20071007.tar.bz2 are the codecs needed by Mplayer and they are installed by default in /usr/local/lib/codecs
I guess Blue-1.7.tar.bz2 is a skin, so it would be either in /usr/local/share/mplayer/skins or in ~/.mplayer/skins
Be careful what are you going to delete, check the file creation dates to see if they were installed by you.

Regards
