You could try to install Debian Squeeze. Technically speaking, the minimum requirements for Squeeze with X windows are 128MB of RAM and 5GB of hard disk space.
I have tried several distros that are light weight and none seem to work they stall at ther boot or the error. I know they work have them installed on other computers. Any suggestions I love the linux I have on the others but I am so tired of windows whenit says you can't do that well it is my computer I should be able to do what ever I want.

I used to have 750mb ram, and was running slackware+fluxbox, think that used around 125mb, but then there are the applications like firefox which drove up the ram, and which required a restart toward the end of the day. If you can stretch to 1GB ram that would be better.
It also means learning a little bit how slackware does things.

Puppy can be temperamental! My advice would be Salix. The standard version will just run in 256MB and will be great in 512. I use it on my old laptop, which has an Intel Pentium M that's been under-clocked to save fan use, so your Celeron will be OK. This guide will tell you more:

I might be wrong, but I think that the maximum ram is 512MB.
