For the best music player I would vote for Amarok.

As far as for the mixing tool you might try Audacity. Haven't tried it myself but it's a well known utility.

This is one of those questions (like "Which is the best Linux?") that has no definate answer. All have their advantages and disadvantages. Which is the best depends on what you want from a media player.

My personal opinion is VLC and at a close second is Mplayer.

Depends on what you're trying to play.

Ogle for DVD (with menu support)
Mplayer for most everything (except VCDs, DVB, and others)
Xine for VCDs
VLC for playing with filters assuming a beefy system (deinterlace)
Kaffeine to watch ATSC digital television
tvtime, mythtv, xawtv, and others for analog television or webcams
xmms for most things audio

And dozens of other options.

For audio, AmaroK.
For Video and DVD Video (and everything else for that matter), MPlayer (check it's gui front end SMPlayer ... it's like Media Player Classic on Windows!) and VLC, MPlayer has a more edge than VLC (I guess).
For Mixing, I don't know.

Every question that includes the words "What ... best ... Linux" disproves the theory that there are no stupid questions. http://linux-sound.org/

Q: "What's the best <thing>?
A: "The one I use, of course."

Besides that, I would rather try to describe *WHAT* exactly do you do with bmp studio, how do you use it, and what for? Maybe that way, we can know what features do you expect from an audio player, and we can give you real advice, instead of telling you what player do we use (which is what everyone in this thread has done until now, I guess).

As far as I know, the so-called "mixing capabilities" of bmp studio are just limited to some real-time stuff like cross-fading and some sample store/playback capability. For the rest is just a playlist manager and nothing else. The audacity program that axelfc suggested is really a wave editor, which I think will be of no use for your purpose. It's not intended for any serious multitrak mixing either (ardour or rosegarden, in the line of the well known nuendo, audio pro logic and cubase, would be far better suited for that, and they all have true mixing capabilities, but they are not programs meant to be used by a dj in real time). Audacity is actually good at editing waves and processing them (not superb, just good) but nothing else.

i fount ultramix itś a best looking audio player i think.
itś a non opensource player free version you don't have skin support.

but it also does not have alsa support.
and i do not got any /dev/dsp on the oss devices.

so no-sound...

i am realy searching for an alternative to that.
hopefully whit alsa.

http://djplay.sourceforge.net/
http://gdam.ffem.org/

Never tested them, they were somewhere in my bookmarks. I had some more, but these are the only sites that are still up See if you can find something there.
