Unhappy What the ......

ok tried to install the 64 bit version of google earth on my fedora 17 insatallation, installed fine, but when I went to run it , clicked on the icon and NOTHING happened... so after an hour of researching possible reasons, I came accross a post that basically said the program was looking for 32 bit libraries (why would a 64 bit application need these when the 64 bit install app was chosen????) .. SOOOO I downloaded the 32 bit version of Google earth and tried to install only to have the install program tell me there were conflicts with the 64 bit version. I then tried to UNINSTALL the 64 bit version of google earth only to have Fedora tell me that OTHER seemingly non connected software had to be removed as well... such as the Gnome3 shell, mail applications, and some network utilities... WHAT THE FUNK is up with that... I dont want to have to uninstall all that and then spend 45 minutes reinstalling these "additional" items in order to install the 32 bit version of Google earth to see if it works... so essentially 2 questions.. WHY in the name of all that is holy would I have to uninstall my desktop shell, my e mail apps, and network utlilties when uninstalling software that is not even remotely connected to these... especially the shell for the gemone desktop... 2) is there ANY way to just uninstall the packages themselves with out "uninstalling the "dependancies"? (or more precisely is there a way to choose which are uninstalled with the main package)

any advice and information is appreciated =)
thanks, peace and God bless =)

Try starting it from the command line (command: googleearth). If it's not in your path, you can find it with whereis googleearth).

Post any error messages here, making sure to enclose them in "code" tags, which become available when you click "Go Advanced" down there at the bottom of the Quick Reply window. That will give much more precise information about what is going on here.

If googleearth notifies you that it has created a crashlog, post the contents of that also.
