depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.6.6/kernel/sound/synth/emux/snd-emux-synt.ko

I've been trying to get a system running for a FEW DAYS now without any success. I've been having various problems alhtough I've done this all before, a number of times. I'm trying to compile a 2.6.6 kernel and I always get this message at the end of my compilation. I've tried using a 2.6.7 kernel but I get the exact same error message except of course for the 2.6.6 part which is 2.6.7 instead.

Does anyone have any idea of what that means? Or how I can fix it? Or how long of a pole I need to poke it?

Hi.

It (almost always) means you're trying to use a module from a different kernel version than you're running.

Try doing 'make mrproper' in the kernel source directory to clean up before you do the compile. You'll have to back up your .config file, as it will be deleted during make mrproper.

Unfortunately, I did do make mrproper in between compilation attempts so that's not it. Any other ideas?

Try downloading the full source for 2.6.7 and starting with a clean slate?

You know... just like I thought. It was something ridiculously simple. I forgot to install module-init-tools. Sorry for the troubles and thanks for the input.
