what does the columns of perf report (command of perf tool in linux) signifies?

what does the columns of perf report (command of perf tool in linux) signifies?
I does not belongs to computer science stream thus can't interpret what does the columns shown in perf report exactly signifies (specially overhead & symbol)?
perf report has five columns:
overhead - It indicates the % of overall samples collected in corresponding function.
command symbol - Process for which samples were collected.
name of ELf image
priviledge level
symbol level
But I don't understand how it calculates overhead & command symbol column.
Anyone who knows this in detail please help me out.
