what are the challenges for converting 32 bit driver to 64 bit driver ?

Hi I am looking to move from 32 bit driver to 64 bit driver and was wondering what are my options to do it ? How do I compile 64 bit driver ? c what are the flags I need to turn on to it ? My application is always 32 bit and how do I talk between 32 bit application to 64 bit driver ?
Any help is highly appreciated.
-Thanks

I'd like an answer to this question too.
What distro are you using Suhas? Hopefully a 64-bit one....?
