What's a good network diagnostic program for my VLAN?
Hey all, I have two sites connected by a 10Mb VLAN. Everything works fine (even connections to a couple of SQL databases) across the VLAN except that we're having some issues with our new VOIP phone system. When we talk to the vendor we're told the problem is with our VLAN or the network but I can't find anything wrong anywhere. For several thousand $$$ they would be willing to come check it out but I don't have that kind of money in my budget (We had a "VLAN problem" once before where a vendor said the problem was with my network. After I paid big bucks to bring someone over from Seattle they found out it was their problem after all).
I've done file transfers while watching with Wireshark and I can see that I'm losing some packets, but then again I'm almost saturating the VLAN and that skews the results. I also can’t find anything wrong with the networks on either side of the VLAN.
Can someone recommend a good network diagnostic program that would check for latency or lost packets or ???. I recently started looking into Linux (two Debian Samba servers so far) and I thought I’d find out what Linux options I have available. I did some Googling but there is a plethora of software out there and I don't really have the time to go through all of them looking for the right one. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe B
