Want a "Line In" visual monitor

This might sound a little useless, but I want something to monitor my Line In signal. Preferably I would like to have the oscilloscope like in Winamp or XMMS, but be able to put it in my Gnome task bar.

If I could get something similar monitor my wireless connection it would be great too.

So not to be picky but here is what I want, and I can't find.

Line IN Oscilloscope
In Gnome task bar.

If I could just get the same thing as in XMMS but modified to work with Line In and somehow place that on the task bar it would be good.

Hopefully this doesn't sound that wacky, its just I have a few different audio devices I hook up through line in, and I would like to be able to monitor a little.

Oh ya, if it is possible I would also like to be able to make it free floating.

Anyone know of anything like this, or want to make this? I have very limited programming knowledge, and no time to learn

Thanks
