Unhappy vsftpd problem

Hi,

I just set up a FTP server that i want to use to principally back up my data. I created account and so on everything is fine. I use WS_FTP to connect to it from my laptop running with Windows....
I just have few problems, why can I delete folders only if they are empty using WS_FTP and why when I upload a a lot of files on my FTP server suddenly it stops in the middle ?
everything is fine if I just transfert one file, but a whole folder with a lot of data doesn't want to go through, start well but stops in the middle ????

Anybody got this problem or any advice ?

Thanks, David.

well actually I can delete the folder, but only if it's empty which is not very convenient sometimes.....

Any Idea why my transfert stops in the middle while transfering a lot of smal files organized in folders and subfolders ?

thanks,

David.

Cool

Ws_FTP is designed to time out after awhile so often >10m files will not make it. As the connection will timeout for security reasons.

The reason you must empty a folder first is again a similar timing issue. So you must dump/delet the files first and then the folder will be made available for deletion.
WS_ftp is an excellent ftp app. I hope you are enjoying it.

Thanks for the quick answer,

I'm also using WS_FTP to connect to another FTP server at my office which is set up with server U under windows and I don't get those problems !! I can upload very long files and delete folders even if not empty. So is it a problem with WS_FTP time out or with my own vsftpd server under Linux that i'm trying to set up for my personal use ?

Thanks a lot,

I have to say that I really the quick answers provided by this forum !!! Great !!!

David.
