I have been trying to get vsftpd set up on my Redhat 9 system. I have vsftpd running as a subservice of xinetd, but when I attempt to connect to the ftp port (firewall has the ports open) remotely, I get a "ftp: connect: Connection refused" error. I suspect that xinetd is not spawning an ftp daemon in response to my request. I have the firewall disabled and hosts.allow set to allow everything (no hosts.deny). I can connect locally (localhost and using local IP) but not remotly. Again, just seems like xinetd is not spawning the session. Thanks for the help!
