VMWare Install Problem

I am trying to install VMWare in FC2 and I am running into a problem.

When I try to have VMware build a module - I run into the following error:

What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running
kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include] /lib/modules/2.6.5-1.358/build/include

The kernel defined by this directory of header files does not have the same
address space size as your running kernel.

Am I suggesting the wrong directory? Any assistance would be great.

Yes, you are suggesting the wrong directory. To build the modules for VMware, you need to have the kernel source installed. Try installing kernel-source-2.6.5-1.358.i386.rpm from your install disc, then when vmware asks about the 'C header files that match your running kernel', just hit 'enter' to accept the default of /usr/src/linux/include.

Enjoy!

If I did the RedHat Network Update to get the current kernel, where do I get the source files for that.?

No idea, I don't use Redhat/Fedora. But come on, do a little thinking for yourself. Go to their website and I'm sure you'll be able to find it. The package should be named somewhat like the package I mentioned above, just change the version number. You can probably even find it through google.

Enjoy!

I did a Google search, I looked on several other boards, and I looked at their web site. I am new to all this so maybe I didn't know EXACTLY what to search for. Answers like the one you provided do nothing for no one. The name of the board is Linux QUESTIONS - not JUSTGOTOGOOGLE.ORG. This is a forum for people to look for information - not get blasted and told to go elsewhere. WHy have the damn board if the answer to everything is "well just think for yourself"

Did you read the rules that you agreed to when you joined this site?

Do not expect LQ members to do your homework - you will learn much more by doing it yourself.
You asked why your vmware install was going badly, so I told you what I thought you were doing wrong, and how to do it right. Then you asked where to find source files for 'the current kernel'. I don't know what the current kernel is from the RedHat Network Update, and you didn't bother to mention it in your post. So I suggested how you can find it, given the limited amount of info I have regarding your situation. I have tried to answer your question as best I can, but you haven't done much to help me give you an answer. Perhaps if you post what version of the kernel you upgraded to, then someone may give you a url. But, given the level of appreciation you've shown for my attempts to help you so far, it won't be me.

I'm sorry that you consider being told to 'think for yourself' as getting 'blasted'. Personally, I think that's some pretty good advice, since the statement:

the answer to everything is "well just think for yourself"
isn't too far from the truth.

Enjoy!
