VLC - web camera streaming problem

Hello forum,

Can someone out there please give me some hints on how to stream from my IP camera (h264) using VLC? I can indeed stream it using mplayer but not VLC even though I use the same commands for each. I posted on Grandstream's forum (it is a Grandstream camera) but nobody is answering yet. I was hoping somebody on this software forum might know something.

I have tried different combinations (below) but all of them give a message saying "cannot connect" or "failed".

I've tried "vlc rtsp://192.168.0.149:10009/test" (works with mplayer)
"vlc rtsp://192.168.0.149:10009/ (works with mplayer)
"vlc rtsp://192.168.0.149:1008/test
"vlc rtsp://192.168.0.149:1008/

where "192.168.0.149" is the IP address of the camera and the "10009" is the rtsp (tcp-udp) port, and "8009" is the camera's (tcp-udp) port. The camera's manual says that the rtsp port needs to be the camera's port plus 2000, which adds up to 10009. I have both ports open with tcp and udp in my router (I'm in my private LAN).

The rstp use flag is enabled in VLC (Gentoo).

I have also changed the demuxer in VLC from default to h264. The camera output is fixed at h264 also.

VLC is version 2.0.9999 (2.0.5)

I will certainly appreciate your input.

Thanks in advance,
Roy

I found my problem. I did not have the "live" use flag activated in VLC (Gentoo) so VLC was not using the live555 implimentation.

All the best,
Roy
