vi: how to exit latex mode?

Hello!
I am using vi:
Code:
vi --version
elvis 2.2.0
Copyright (c) 1995-2003 by Steve Kirkendall
I want to master it, so I use it to edit my latex works. The problem is that in the .tex files it recognizes latex and some of the curly braces { } and \ symbols are not displayed, as well as the \section commands are recognized and the section names are displayed centered without the commands. Is there some way to disable that latex recognition feature of vi so that everything is displayed as is? In vim there is no such issue: it displays the .tex files as they are.

Thank you for your attention.

Regards,

Martin

Looks like you are not running Vim or standard vi when you run 'vi' command. From the output you've posted it seems you are running 'elvis'. If you want to run 'vim' when you execute the 'vi' command just declare an alias. If there's a .bash_aliases file, in your home directory you can define the alias there. If not you can do it in your .bashrc file by adding a line like this:
alias vi='vim'

Sorry, this is isn't the solution you asked for but a walk around.
