you can't use more than 1 desktop environment at the same time, but you can use various apps from different DEs.
a little caution is prudent, always look what dependencies the app wants to pull in when installing. it may cause problems.
@ ondoho: I think he(or she) meant installing all tree on the same system ...
@ rubankumars: It might need some extra configurations in the menu/default-apps (you'll get multiple tools for the same thing), only install their minimal packages.

What I meant by using more than one DE at a time is "keeping more than one DE" the same machine.For eg,I install both lxde and kde in my debian.I use lxde is for me and KDE is for my family.
^ you mean like seperate logins, maybe even seperate users?
that should be possible.
i would go for the seperate users option, and install the new DE from inside the target user.
