USB 2.00 installation

I want to utilise my four USB 2.00 on my notebook, an Acer Aspire 1600. I've installed College linux with 2.4 kernel, and I know that the kernel 2.5 has a specific support for them. How can I install the drivers (I've downloaded 2.5 kernel) on my system? May you indicate to me a good guide of reference, and the languages I must know to create and modificate drivers, please?

Thank you

2.5 is a beta kernel. i don't think that i would have my prime install of linux running it only. you could do some searching here to find how to have multiple kernels to boot to. then you can have the two of them going, not at the same time of course.

cheers.
