upgraded from redhat 9 to fc2...wont boot

Ok i updated redhat 9 to fedora core 2 using apt-get. had a bunch of problems but now all packages are installed. I have kernel 2.4 and kernel 2.6 installed. kernel2.4 still wroks and can boot with it but login is really slow and im getting other weird prlblems. when i try and boot to kernel 2.6 i get this warning:

mount: missing device
failed in exec at defaults
failed in exec at ext2

pivot out: pivot_root(/sysroot,/sysroot/initrd) failed: 2
kernel panic: no init found

Any clues what is the problem?

thanks,
Paul
