Howdy guys.
I'd say I have an above average understanding of linux. I previously ran Slackware for years, but recently have switched over to Gentoo. If anyone needs any more input from me to help out, I'll have no problem giving it.
Anyway, my problem is that recently, when I try to run amarok, an error pops up saying:
Quote:
There was an error setting up inter-process communications for KDE. The message returned by the system was:
Could not read network connection list.
/home/peter/.DCOPserver_deviant_0
Please check that the dcopserver program is running!

Amarok still runs, but after a while of playing music, it will start losing control and skip around songs as if it isn't able to find any music.
So obviously, next step is running dcopserver, which yields:
Quote:
peter@deviant ~ $ dcopserver
/usr/bin/iceauth: creating new authority file /home/peter/.ICEauthority
/usr/bin/iceauth: unable to link authority file /home/peter/.ICEauthority, use /home/peter/.ICEauthority-n
DCOPClient::attachInternal. Attach failed Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed
ICE Connection rejected!
DCOPClient::attachInternal. Attach failed Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed
DCOPServer self-test failed.
ICE Connection rejected!
iceauth: creating new authority file /home/peter/.ICEauthority

But really, all it does is create an alternate .ICEauthority file call .ICEauthority-n.
I've searced and searched, and it seems like most user's problems are easily fixed by changing the ownership of the file, or simply by deleting .ICEauthority. However, upon trying to delete it (as root or as a regular user), I get the error:
Quote:
deviant root # rm -rf .ICEauthority
rm: cannot remove `.ICEauthority': Stale NFS file handle
deviant root #
|
And the same error if I try to change permissions.
I tried booting up a LiveCD to remove the file, but I recieved an "Input/Output" error.
However, the strangest thing is checking the permissions of the file. It reads as:
Quote:
ls: cannot access .ICEauthority: Stale NFS file handle
total 668
drwxr-xr-x 60 peter users 4096 Mar 5 20:39 .
drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 4096 Nov 30 2006 ..
-????????? ? ? ? ? ? .ICEauthority

So...
I'm currently recompiling numerous KDE packages (incase more recent installations of QT or other programs interfered) to see if the problem becomes fixed, but that seems implausible.
How do I finally get rid of this file, and allow amarok to run correctly? Any ideas?
