unRAR install nightmare

Just downloaded unRAR 3.3.4 and untrred the file. Very little documentation and I cannot install it. I have no idea what to do.

Included is makefile.unix which is the default for Linux. None of my usual commands do anything. I am using Mandrake 10.1. Can anyone with experience please tell me what I should do?

Go to Easy Urpmi and configure a urpmi source for PLF.
Then type urpmi unrar in a console as root.

A swift response that unfortunately leaves me even more confused! I have no idea what Easy Urpmi is or what your commans mean. I do appologise. I'm still quite new and this is a large break away from the simple ./configure make and make install.

Would you kindly elaborate a little for the benefit of the cerebrally impaired! (me!)

Urpmi is the default package manager for Mandrake Linux . Take a look at this Mandrake website to find out about urpmi. Once you r done, go to zebulon.org.uk for more information for a like urself as well as the site linked above by Tormented.

If by 'the usual commands' you mean make, then try telling it to use the makefile.unix file which it wouldn't look for by default:
make -f makefile.unix

I did not succeed in installing unrar with the compile errors I was getting. However if you wish to install unrar and rar please read my other thread here. Synaptic will install rar and unrar flawlessly. Hopw this helps anyone else struggling with rar files.
