Uninstall Programs

I am needing to install a different version of Cyrus IMAP because of a conflict with another program. Is there a good way to uninstall the Cyrus IMAP that I have now? I compiled it myself from binaries and used make install. Would simply over writing the current version with the slightly older version really matter?

I am a newbie when it comes to Linux program structure. What are the opinions?

Much thanks!

Try make uninstall. Works sometimes (when the developers included the option).
