Unable to install RPM source

Hello
Recently I had problems with RPM 3.0x and I was forced to remove it from my
system. Now I have a "chicken or the egg problem" In order for me to reinstall RPM 3.0x or even 4.0x I need a working installation of RPM...which
I don't have. My second idea is to download the RPM source and compile
build it back into my system.

I downloaded the source from rpm-4.0.1-0.7x.src from rpmfind.net but there is no support
or even a README file on how to compile and build in it.
Can you plz tell me how to compile the rpmsource

Have you tried downloading the gzipped tarballs (tar.gz) ftp://ftp.rpm.org/pub/rpm/dist/rpm-4.0.x and install them.

1. untar and decompress the file by typing: tar zxvf <package-name>.
2. change to the directory it created usually a similar name to the package.
3. open up any text file that might give you any clues on how to set it up properly.
