(ubuntu) "Tor exited" - why not fixed in vidalia package?

When starting vidalia, I received the following error:
Code:
Vidalia detected that the tor software exited unexpectedly. Please check the message log for recent warning or error messages.
I found http://www.noobrescue.com/blog/vidal...d-unexpectedly, which said

Code:
sudo killall tor
would fix this for the current run, and it did. So I'm now considering following the procedure to fix it permanently as described in that page, and whether it's better than to add that line to startup scripts.

Of course, I'm wondering why is it not working in the first place, why does it require fixing? Couldn't the person who put together the ubuntu's vidalia package fix this? Or someone who works on vidalia?

there is set up you must do like opining the ports ,and decide if you are or are not going to run a bridge or just use 10% of your network for the node/relay

I'm not sure if you are addressing my question. If you are, please explain what you are getting at, because I already have several solutions, and I'm just looking to find out why they are necessary in the first place. If not, I hope to explain it more explicitly below. Vidalia works fine with tor on my system, however it requires that I first kill tor. All of this is discussed in the link in my first post. The only thing missing, however, is the reason why the package creators in ubuntu failed to take this problem into account. Another thing is, what is the better solution: the procedure to fix it permanently as described in that page or adding "sudo killall tor" to a startup script.
