I writing this from w7 as ubuntu 12.04 appears to not be booting.
The message is black and white text screen with a "validate BASH" and a grub command prompt. As newbie I dont understand the command options offered when I hit the tab key. Please help.
Are windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04 the only operating systems?
Is this a new installation of Ubuntu? or was it working before some change(s)?

this is a new install about 2 mos ago. I like ubuntu ALOT.
System was working fine after install. Standard multiboot message at startup. however, if i select ubuntu, I receive the limited bash space message and the grub prompt. I took pics of the screen if that helps.
Is this a wubi install of Ubuntu as a program inside windows?
Or is Ubuntu on its own partition?
You might try going to the site below using the Ubuntu (or any Linux Live CD) and reading the instructions, downloading and running the bootinfoscript which will produce a results.txt file containing info on your drive/partition and boot files:
