UBuntu 12.04 Thunderbird displays boldface mail titles and freezes system

2015-03-12

My Ubuntu 12.04's Thunderbird has been displaying boldface mail titles all over the screen and has aslo been freezing the system for several months. My only solution is to shut down the computer and restart Ubuntu.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thunderbird information: 1:31.0+build1-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 Email, RSS and newsgroup client with integrated spam filter
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Linux information: jul-dl 3.2.0-67-generic-pae #101-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jul 15 18:04:54 UTC 2014 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

Any help from this forum will be greatly appreciated.

I updated both Thunderbird and Ubuntu 12.04's kernel to the latest versions yesterday. Even though I don't seem to see the old boldface double printing all over the screen any more, Thunderbird freezes the system more than ever.

Linux is sharing the computer's 40gb hard drive with Windows XP. However, it's using only 1/3 of its allotted hard-drive space and 2/3 of RAM.
