Allright, I'm in a jam...
I finally installed linux, and being a programmer, installed java. I then had to find the class path to change it, so that the java compiller would work.
I changed the /etc/profile(s?) file, and then rebooted. I'm an idiot.
anyway, I can boot RH 8, but can only login to window manager. problem: I can't open a text editor to "un edit" the file.
how do I get a text editor that runs on a floppy? My friend has a linux demo cd,(not knoppix) but there isn't a txt editor on that either. does knoppix/other demo cd have any text editor? I just need to edit one line. please help..
how do you get one? just copy one there.... nothing complex about it, i don't understand what the problem is... i would still be willing to bet that vi, jove or emacs is on that demo cd somewhere, and 100% on knoppix.
vi runs from a floppy. You can also try booting into linux single, where no scripts are processed at startup. Just type 1 or linux S(GRUB or lilo) with your kernel options and you'll be dropped in a Single user mode.
