Question thunderbird installation mandriva 2005

Hello helpful Linux wizards,

I'm having difficulties installing thunderbird in Mandriva's Limited Edition 2005 distro. I'm a super Newbie, so please bear with me, and be as descriptive as possible while I continue to learn this wonderful OS.

I have downloaded Thunderbird from mozilla's website, and placed the tar ball in my /usr/local/src directory. After entering 'tar -zxvf thunderbird-1.0.2.tar.gz' (without quotes) in the proper directory, I get a long list of files that are being extracted, concluding with the following error message: (first three lines below are the last of the extracted files)

thunderbird/run-mozilla.sh
thunderbird/thunderbird
thunderbird/thunderbird-bin

gzip: stdin: unexpected end of file
tar: Unexpected EOF in archive
tar: Unexpected EOF in archive
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

After seeing this error, I tried running ./thunderbird to see if the installation would run, but alas no. I get the following error:

./run-mozilla.sh: line 159: 30706 Segmentation fault "$prog" ${1+"$@"}

Can anyone please help me to figure out what I did wrong? Please help!

Sincerely,

Confusion

Sounds like you got a bad download. I'd redownload it and try again. Also you could see if mandriva offers a RPM for Thunderbird.

Cool

Thanks kak,

Mandriva does in fact offer an RPM for the latest version of Thunderbird, and it is now installed correctly. Thanks for your help!!
