The simplest possible v4l programming example?

Hi guys

I have the programming-v4l pdf by Gleicon S. Moraes, but I keep getting the famous

ioctl VIDIOCMCAPTURE: Invalid argument

error when I try to run any of the two programs he illustrates in it on my FC3 2.6.14.3 system.

My hardware is fine, XAWTV, KDETV and motion all work 100% correctly - I just can't seem to write my own program that will grab one single frame and save it in a file.

I also tried to reverse-engineer XAWTV, KDETV, motion AND videodog but none of the four attempts has proved possible since there are thousands of lines of code and I've got no idea what is "app specific" and what actually has to do with v4l...

Any other pointers that shows how to capture one frame from /dev/video0 in the simplest way possible?

Thanks!
