the QT library

hello what are peoples views on the QT library? as its made by trolltech, im worried that the rug could be pulled out from underneath it all at some point in the future. am i right to be concerned? i dont really know enough about it to be honest, i was just wondering what everyone else thought about QT, as im (possibly irrationally) staying away from QT based apps.

I don't really see any reason to be worried if you are using it to develop free software since there is a completely opensource version of Qt so others can continue development. The KDE website has more info about the Qt issue. If you use it to develop commercial apps, I wouldn't be worried either because it seems like Trolltech is doing well and development of Qt won't be stopping anytime soon.

QT is a great framework. Really powerful, yet easy to learn. It has good tools, like the GUI designer, translation tool etc. The python bindings are excellent, so if you don't want to battle the monster that is C++, you have a higher-level alternative. Add to these things the fact that it makes porting a trivial matter. I recommend it.

As for licensing, many years ago there were worries from the Free Software community about the license, but that's obsolete now. Rest easy that it's future is assured as long as people want to use it.
