the best way to move files around.....

Ive got quite the situation going.

Ive been using linux for a while now, and have been going between both. Ive decided that i think microsoft can shove it, especially since i found that unreal 2k4 runs good under linux. Anyways, i need to move quite a bit of files around, and do not know the best way to do it. Im i've got a copy of Fedora 64 running on a small hard drive, but will soon be putting suse 9.1 on my main drive. I've moved what i needed off my main drive (its a WD 80.0 SATA) I moved the files over to my portable drive (NTFS). I've tried and tried and tried in fedora 2 to use NTFS and have had no luck whatsoever. I also have problems getting FAT32 to work as well. I will still have one of my small drives running a copy of windows XP. So, i guess the questions i have are:

Is there a safe and effective way to move files through windows to a linux suse partition?
'
If not, will the suse OS be easier to install NTFS support than Fedora 2 was?

and does anyone eles have any other ideas?

What id really like to have happen is to keep an NTFS partition on my Portable drive, (40 gig Segate) because i use it in alot of places. Id like to have my 80 gig completely linux. keep my two small tens for junk (one is running windows XP and the other running fedora)..... I also have another drive coming to me.... but i dont know the size (to replace one of my other drives in another machine) its at least a 40..... Ive got Hard drives coming out my ears......
Any ideas?

There is no stable write support for ntfs in linux yet as it is a closed standard. The best idea would be to use a fat32/vfat partition for moving your data.

I've seen windows software that can access linux partitions, but I certainly wouldn't trust them. What exactly are the problems you are having with mounting NTFS in linux? Have you tried making a folder /mnt/ntfs and - as root - running:
Quote:
mount -t ntfs /dev/hdb1 /mnt/ntfs
Replace 'hdb1' with the device file of your NTFS partition.

Edit: Forgot to mention you can only read NTFS partitions, not write them.

think i know what im doing wrong... not making a folder. I'll give that a try and let you know. I really only want to read files, so thats okay that you can only read them.

You also have to make sure to get the NTFS rpm in order for Fedora to read an NTFS partition.
http://linux-ntfs.sourceforge.net/rpm/fedora2.html

Make sure to choose the rpm that matches your kernel.
