I'm working on multiple problems here and not having much luck. I want to ftp or telnet to another linux machine on my home LAN. Both are running SuSE 8 pro. Both have ftp and telnet turned on. I got the ip address of one using ifconfig as su (192.168.1.101). When I try to connect from the other with > telnet 192.168.1.101 I get "Connection closed by foreign host". When I try the same thing with ftp, I get "421 Service not available, remote server has closed connection.".

When I go into Yast2/Inetd services, it says both services are active.

What gives?
