with any text editor. I prefer command line text editors, specifically pico. But there is ALWAYS vi, it's a little complicated to use at first though..

You can also use some of the gui text editors, kwrite or gedit are both available.

REMEMBER TO BACK IT UP! The command is:
cp .xsession .xsession.old

This simply creates an identical copy named .old to help you see which one is the original in case you need to put it back.

Cool

Sorry that came in 8 seconds before mine

kwrite .xsession

That should open it up. *most* of the commands and things I say to type are in the command line.

Cool

Ok, let's give this a go, no biggie if it doesn't work as you can always simply remove the file later:

Go ahead and type into that newly created blank document:
gkrellm &
exec startkde

Then save the file, open up a terminal and type:
chmod 755 .xsession

This will make it executable.

Now restart your X server:
CTRL ALT BACKSPACE

Then attempt to log back into KDE, see what kinds of bad thing happen if any... If it's fine, cool, if it's not then simply remove that file we created.

Cool

1 more thing that should have been mentioned up front...

You should be doing things like this with a "test" user. If you aren't, I will gladly help you create a user real quick to do things like this on.

Cool

When removing the user just use:
userdel -r username

This removes the directory and the user.

I'll see what I can find for ya. One idea is that KDE comes with a "startup" folder now, I don't know if it's a KDE3 specific thing though, but that might work for you..

Cool
