SuSE and PuTTY - Keyboard problems

Hello,

I have tried every possible combination of received character encoding that seems logical, and every keyboard setup in PuTTY.

Yet, when running PuTTY on Windows XP to connect to a SuSE 9.3-10.2 server, my "Home", "End", and some of the function keys don't work. This is a huge problem, as I can't use my emacs keybindings.

Any ideas? Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks,
Jason

What is your termtype (echo $TERM) after login? You need to make sure that agrees with what putty is doing. The default that works best is "xterm".

echo $TERM is "xterm".

Terminal-type string in PuTTY is "xterm"

I don't do emacs but home, end and most function keys work for me in other apps.

Under PuTTY Keyboard Settings I have:
Standard for Home and End keys
Esc[n~ for Function keys

rxvt seems to work for the home key. Under this setting, the end key just prints the character "7". Under Standard, neither work.

I've tried Linux, VT100+, and ESC[n~ for function keys, and none of them work.

Home is doing 7? Do you have your num lock on? With that on the key shouldn't send a 7 unless there is something seriously wrong with your keyboard.

There's something seriously wrong with the PuTTY keymapping.

Home works fine on the local Windows machiene, but is translated incorrectly going to the remote machine, and is printing a "7" there.
